Exploring Dance Forms and Styles (2010), Helene Scheff, Marty Sprague and Susan McGreevyNichols

Lesson Plan (5)

Grade Level: 6th-12th

This is a unit plan (5-6 lesson plans) for students to explore diverse ethnic group’s cultural dance and adopt themselves to create new dance form. This unit plan uses Kathak, Raqs al Balas, and Flamenco for students to explore, learn, compare and use as choreograph tool.

This is a very useful unit plan for dance teachers to introduce new forms of dance for students and embody them with their own movement. By exploring diverse cultures, students can learn the importance of multicultural and they will be more be aware of, understand, and able to interact with different cultures.

Lesson  Plan

Grade Level: K-2

This is a great lesson plan for students to learn about the concept of society and communities. The teacher can layer the country or ethnic background for each group or even different religion. Teachers can bring up the different backgrounds of celebration for each groups about race or ethnicity before they begin the class and ask students to find significant movement for each group. Then, students can explore each significant movement for celebrating. By this lesson, students can understand how the community cooperates in the society and how all of us live together.
